In the following ‘Meet the Team’ segment, we introduce to you, KKO’s leading editor since 2016: Chris Saballos. Before 2016, videos were edited by various editors, including Kelby Joseph (founder). Chris, an aspiring editor was brought on to the team after showcasing a desire to learn and develop his skill as a video editor. Since then, he’s worked on countless KKO videos ranging from music video promotional videos and even the feature film ‘Uncle Ed’s Bucket List’. Chris has shown immense growth as an editor and his dedication to the craft has been a tremendous asset to the KKO team. This is Chris Saballos.
Who are you? What’s your name and where are you from?
My name’s Chris Saballos and I’m from Los Angeles. I was born in Washington but moved to Echo Park when I was about a year old so I consider Echo Park my hometown.
What’s your position at KKO?
My main role at KKO is one of the video editors for all projects. Though I’ve been known to take a few photos, and PA on a set sometimes.
Why did you decide to get into this line of work?
I love film and have been a movie buff since before DVDs were a thing. I always had an idea of be in this industry it was just a matter of what part I’d like to take in it.
How did you become a member of this team?
I met Kelby in 2014 when we worked mall security together. I mentioned I was doing some indie short films and he said,” great! I’m shooting something this Saturday, here’s the address, be there at 2.” The rest is history.
What are you most looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to improving my craft and getting to see this company grow into everything we know it can be!
What is one project you felt resonated with you the most?
I would have to say working on Uncle Ed’s Bucket List has had the most impact on me so far. It’s my first feature film that I have an editor’s credit on and I learned so much from the experience.
What do you hope to see in the future of KKO?
I hope to see us grow into our own studio space that will help us produce more content much faster! And an office with a bean bag chair for myself…since you’re asking.
Are you inspired by anyone’s work?
It’s hard to narrow it down to one or two people I feel inspired by. There’s so much to learn about storytelling from the growing list of filmmakers in our industry. If I had to choose, I’d have to say I do have an affinity for the raw simplicity of Wes Anderson’s story telling as well as Spike Lee and Kevin Smith.
One day, who do you hope to work with?
I’m just happy to be doing what I do now. I’m enjoying the journey and I’m blessed to be working with great companies/people now and in the future.
